In June of 2020, as I was heading to a meeting at Ghost Ranch, I heard a “suggestion” to “propose the residency NOW.” Ridiculous, I thought. I had tried to get this accomplished for years with no avail; however, I followed the prompt and the result was an enthusiastic YES! Estudio Corazón became the COVID project for dozens of staff and volunteers over the next several months. The “casitas”, originally built in 1941 to house archaeologists, were refurbished to include a living space on one side and a separate studio on the other side.

In October of that year, we welcomed seven artists and writers who spent four weeks together creating and communing: an almost unheard of opportunity in the midst of a pandemic. Since that initial residency, Estudio Corazón has offered residencies every year in May, June, August, September and October. Nestled in a quiet part away from most Ranch activity, Estudio Corazon has become sanctuary and transformational experience for creatives of all sorts.

It’s truly been a dream come true for me and a legacy I hope will live on in perpetuity.
